Stan Mosel was inducted into the New Jersey PGA Hall of Fame in 2000. Stan was the Head Professional at Essex Fells CC, Essex Fells, NJ for 20 years from 1956 to 1976. From 1977 until his retirement in 2002, Stan was Head Professional at Burning Tree Country Club in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Stan was a member of the legendary North Texas State College golf team, winning four straight NCAA championships. In the 1952 United States Open held at Northwood Club in Dallas, while still a member of his college golf team, Stan set the then all-time back nine tournament scoring record by firing a 31. He later excelled on the PGA Tour during the 1950's and 60's. Stan went on to qualify for eight more US Opens and four PGA Championships.
He was the New Jersey PGA champion in 1956 and 1967 and the Ballantine Open champion in 1961 and 1962. He also won the 1955 New Jersey Open and the 1965 Dodge Open. As a senior player, Stan qualified for the 1982 and 1984 United States Senior Opens and was the 1982 Metropolitan Senior PGA champion. He was twice awarded " MET PGA Professional of the Year."
Much more than his accomplishments and machine-like precision on the golf course, Stan will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, patient instructor and humble gentleman to all.
